It’s a new year. New year, new me: that’s what a lot of people are thinking. I’ll determine to be better and therefore I will be. I want to lose weight, so I will. I want to be nicer, so I will be. We all know that life is not as easy as that.

The gym membership loses its appeal. The diet becomes less tasty. The musical instrument grows rusty. New things are tarnished, and fresh expressions are old.

What we expect of ourselves and what others expect of us are often very far from the reality. This month we’ll be exploring what this looks like through some real-life examples. We’ll discover some coping mechanisms with the challenges they throw up and we’ll look at how we can do better at managing expectations in a healthy way.
